Materials List

The following list has been complied to give you some guidance when buying art materials for the Graphics course.  Many students appear with lower quality art products that are unsuitable for producing pleasing results.

It is always best to avoid cheap materials at all cost. Cheap colours and thin, substandard paper puts students off painting more than anything else. Definitely false economy.

Avoid sets of paints that have a huge range of colours. Students are much better off equipped with a 'limited palette'.  It is easier to produce successful pieces that 'work' and harmonise. It is cheaper, simpler and lots more rewarding.

If the overall price of this basic set appears high, please consider the cost of computer software/hardware, sporting equipment or musical instruments in relation.

Please note that not purchasing these materials wil in no way affect the potential mark available. However, if these materials are used on a regular basis in class and at home, the course will be an infinity more rewarding experience.

I have provided links for all materials to Ken Bromley Art Supplies. The Graphics Department  has no affiliation with these companies, but they have been used and can be relied upon for value and speed of shipping.   If you are unsure about ordering online, both sites feature a phone number for sales.  Failing that you can print off this list and take it to a local art store or Hobbycraft.

Watercolour Brushes

Good brushes will last a very long time if they are properly looked after.  I would recommend the following as a good starters set...

1/2" flat - http://www.artsupplies.co.uk/brushes-ken-bromley-artists-value-flat-panache-brushes.htm

Nos. 12, 10 and 6 Rounds -  http://www.artsupplies.co.uk/brushes-ken-bromley-artists-value-round-panache-brushes.htm

You can get all 3 for £20.

Sketchbook

I recommend a handy 190 x 250 mm sketchbook - 150gsm paper, hardback and stitched. Small enough to work anywhere and big enough for all Graphics project work.

£5 from the Graphics Dept.

Approx £75 so far.

The above is fine for many of the home, independent and course works. For a more extensive set up the remainder of the materials are recommended.
